NOTE BY HUNTER BEAR (JANUARY 15 2014):
Although I am not "into" sending numbers of photos around, this contemporary one gives an idea of how far I have come from the Pits of Lupus. That monster has not shown any signs of returning. You can either click the attachment or see the photo at the conclusion of this message.
This photo was taken on January 10 2014 at our Idaho home. Christmas was good to me and, among a number of fine gifts, I received this excellent Stetson (Size XXL) from Maria and Eldri. I also received this first-rate War Club which was personally carved for me by Quick Bear (Bret) Salter. (When I hold it, I itch to use it on nefarious people. However, there are none within reach at the moment.) If you look closely, you can see on my upper shirt, my special Bear Claw. I have had that with me for ages and ages.
Here, QB, who lives in the Fargo/Moorhead area, discusses several gifts he sent us -- with a detailed description of his creation of the War Club:
I'm glad you like the war club Grandpa.
The whole thing is actually a sapling that I cut down, then dug out. After I stripped the bark off and did some shaping, I let it dry for a number of months. I couldn't think of a way to dress it, so I settled with the fringe and the brass tacks. Every time I tried wrapping the handle, it would end up rather thick so I abandoned the idea. I'm glad I did too.
For Maria's bag, I've never done anything with cones. I thought it was a nice idea and it came out rather well. Of course I made the bag myself, inside one would see a BS inscribed within a Q, which I put on all the bags I make, or at least the more recent ones.
I bought the dala horse from a small Scandinavian shop in the mall here. I had the idea for it several years ago, but it worked out this year.
Things could get as low as -60 or even -70 windchill, so that'll be exciting
Love
Quick Bear
