The point of referencing the Nuremberg definition of Identity is to provide a criterion other than the self-defintion of Jewish people, which is dismissed as irrelevent by Marxist reaction. Otherwise it is the self-defintion of a given nation or nationality to define itself in principle. However while generally a National Identity is a matter of what that People itself conceives of itself, that is not what is recognized by some reactionaries in the case of the Jewish People. A parallel Identity is that of the Black Nation in the USA, which is recognized despite the lack of a State.

Abraham is distastefully looking to the Nuremberg Laws for guidance, but is there not a kernel of truth in the suggestion that both Nazism and Judaism defined a Jew according to his or her bloodline - benignly in the case of the latter, genocidally in the case of the former?

It was legitimate for secular Jews like those in the Bund to define their identity in terms of their national attributes rather than religion since the Yiddish-speaking Jews had their own language, culture, and even distinct territory in Eastern Europe.  But I admit to having difficulty  understanding why those who do not practice the religion nor share a common language or culture self-identify as "Jewish" other than that they can trace their ancestry to that national entity which was tragically destroyed in the Holocaust.
