Trump wants a retreat that saves face. Iran is not allowing that. The US is on the cusp of an historic defeat. 

There is renewed anxiety among the US chattering class about the debt. The US is reportedly transferring over a trillion dollars a year to the financial industry for interest on the federal debt. US bonds are reportedly competing with bonds issued by the tech industry for AI buildout. This is driving up interest rates on the nearly $40 trillion US debt along with the Iran war and the federal budget deficit, which exceeds annual US GDP.
