Failing to provide an institutional framework for discussing differences is
not the same as making them "taboo." Make contacts outside of meeting. Do
what you can to encourage their discussion. I don't mean talking about your
views primarily, but encourage others to to be forthcoming about theirs.

Political people have a taste for political discussions. Work to create an
atmosphere that encourages it.
