expensive could also mean "requires a certain amount of time, effort,
resources"

I think the "abstract exchange relationship" is the root of "anonymous
flows".

I doubt if there is anything like this in a future society.  Although I do
not 
buy into the mutual obligation system that Christian Siefkes envisioned,
the 
flow of material resources might be somehow directed by social preferences.

Gift economy is not necessary a personal or obligation issue.
