Most of the statistics in this short (abbreviated) commentary have been
compiled from Rasmussen Reports as of October 24th:
A lot can happen in a day or two. One major revelation can tip the scales
however they have been close for awhile now and have consistently favored
Barack Obama. Polls and elections, like the stock market, are hugely
driven by emotion, in spite of profit and loss statements and events have,
like a pebble in a pond, a rippling far-reaching effect. There is a
significant black voting block in this election which skews the results of
the polls and will not doubt have the most dramatic effect on this
election. Liberal democrats (whether party members or not) also highly
influence the results. These people are unmoving; they will not change
their views no matter how damning the news and evidence about Obama might
be.
As of today the Rasmussen daily tracking puts Obama at 52% to John
McCain's 45%. That poll is the latest and was released at 9:30 a.m.
Obama holds the lead by 3 points among white women, however as has been
consistent in this race McCain leads among white men. Overall when the
black vote is factored in the lead among women is up to 16 points which
gives Obama a decided lead. There are still millions of former Hillary
voters (and many PUMA members) who will either not vote for Obama or vote
for McCain. Interestingly many are still undecided whether to vote for
McCain or write in Hillary or not vote at all. I think many will realize
they must hold their nose and vote for McCain if they are to have any
chance of defeating McCain. This is a huge group of millions of voters who
are among the undecided. The only indecision is whether or not to vote for
McCain, while many of them are now committed to vote for McCain but are
not being accurately figured into any poll. There is no special category
for them in the Rasmussen totals. They, alone, could tip the scale.
