The focus of the Afghan War is clearly shifting south into Pakistan,  drawing 
that nation and the United States forces ever closer to a direct  confrontation. 
This grim development was as predictable as it was  inevitable.
Last week, Pakistan temporarily closed the main US/NATO supply route  from 
Karachi to the Afghan border at Torkham after the killing of three  Pakistani 
soldiers by US helicopter gunships. Two US/NATO fuel supply  convoys were burned 
by anti-American militants.
Eighty percent of the supplies of the US-led forces in Afghanistan  come up this 
long, difficult route. Along the way, the US pays large  bribes to Pakistani 
officials, local warlords, and to Taliban. The cost of a gallon of gas delivered 
to US units in Afghanistan has risen to $800.

What we are seeing evolving here is a war against  the Pakistani people, the 
"privilege" of doing such having been  purchased from Pakistani military and 
political leaders looking the  other day while their citizens get maimed and 
killed in these drone  strikes.
The US cannot and will not win these wars without end; most likely,  the US 
government will collapse under the weight of its indebtedness,  and the US will 
balkanize.
And as to the latest alleged Bin Laden "statements" on audio tape:the guy has 
been dead for years, and before that was a CIA asset!

U.N. Report finds Israel "summarily executed" U.S. citizen on flotilla

Last week, the Office of the U.N. High  Commissioner for Human Rights released a 
comprehensive report detailing  its findings regarding the May, 2010, Israeli 
attack on the six-ship  flotilla attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to 
Israel-blockaded  Gaza.  The report has been largely ignored in the American 
media despite  the fact (or, more accurately:  because) it found that much of 
the  Israeli force used "was unnecessary, disproportionate, excessive and  
inappropriate and resulted in the wholly avoidable killing and maiming  of a 
large number of civilian passengers"; that "at least six of the  killings can be 
characterized as extra-legal, arbitrary and summary  executions"; and that 
Israel violated numerous international human  rights conventions, including the 
Fourth Geneva Conventions.

Despite torrential rain outside and flash-flood warnings across the  area, the 
couple arrives to shop. Tracy Young says they've been doing  this midnight run 
on the last day of every month for so long now that  they're on a first-name 
basis with Gloria, their cashier.
"It's been about a year. We used to go to Bloom, and then we found  out we were 
saving more coming here," Tracy Young says. At a stroke or  two after midnight 
they begin unloading their carts at the checkout.  Tracy says they set aside 
$500 for groceries a month. With five kids,  the money they get never lasts 
until the next monthly check.
"It's usually about a week and a half," she says. "We try to figure  out what we

A Rand Corp. study found that nearly one in five soldiers will suffer  from 
mental health problems caused by the trauma of war and the stress  of multiple 
deployments.
That's an alarming statistic for anywhere in America. But it could have  
far-reaching consequences in Cumberland County, where most of the 50,000  
soldiers based at Fort Bragg live. This year, almost all of them are  home at 
once for one of the few times since Sept. 11, 2001.

The fact that a 19-year-old American citizen was one of the dead —  among those 
whom the report concluded was “summarily executed” by the  Israelis — makes the 
U.S. Government’s silence here all the more  appalling.  One of the prime duties 
of a government is to safeguard the  welfare of its own citizens.  It’s 
inconceivable for most governments in  the world to remain silent in the face of 
formal findings that a  foreign nation “summarily executed” one of its own 
citizens.

The Associated Press has learned the Obama  administration is considering a 
broad warning for U.S. citizens to avoid  public places in Europe due to new 
al-Qaida threats.
Such a move could have significant implications for European tourism.
U.S. officials told the AP on Saturday that the State Department may  issue a 
travel warning as early as Sunday advising Americans to stay  away from European 
tourist sites, transportation hubs and other  facilities because of new threat 
information.
