If the world’s shell-shocked investors thought that 2011 might see an outbreak 
of peace in the currency wars, they were sadly mistaken. Not only did Brazil 
last week take more action to stem the rise in the real but Chile, one of the 
most free-market of emerging economies, has also unveiled a campaign of 
intervention against its currency.
With a sense that the battles against destabilising capital inflows are here to 
stay has come a determination to set new rules of engagement on controlling 
them. But given the uncertainty and political explosiveness around the issue, 
any such venture faces a tough future.

Saudi Arabia bans blogging without a licence

Under the new rules, to be introduced next month, all online writers - and this 
appears to include forums and even short messaging - will need a licence, valid 
for up to three years.
The Saudi government says the move is simply designed to protect society - and 
points out that it was already censoring content anyway. Saudi Arabia has one of 
the highest numbers of bloggers in the Arabic world.
Applicants for a licence need to be Saudi, at least 20 years old and to have 
graduated from high school. They will also need 'documents testifying to their 
good behaviour'. Editors of online newspapers will need to be approved by the 
Ministry of Information and Culture.

Where are the 103,000 new jobs? As I have reported for years, the jobs are in 
non-tradable domestic services: waitresses and bar tenders, health care and 
social assistance (primarily ambulatory health care services), and retail and 
wholesale trade.
Today the United States has only 11,670,000 manufacturing jobs, less than 9% of 
total jobs. Yet, despite America’s heavy dependence on foreign manufactures and 
foreign creditors, the idiots in Washington think that they are a superpower 
standing astride the world like a colossus.
John Williams reports that “the level of payroll employment still stands below 
where it was a decade ago, despite the U.S.population growing by more than 10% 
in the same period. The structural impairments to U.S. economic activity 
continue to constrain normal commercial activity, preventing any meaningful 
recovery in business activity.”

In an almost predictable move, notorious gun grabber Carolyn McCarthy is 
planning to introduce gun control legislation after the Tucson shooting and 
assassination attempt of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords
This is a shameless political move and should be rejected outright.
The idea that only the corrupt government and their subordinates should be 
allowed to stock pile ammo is absurd. If society collapses, what are citizens 
supposed to do to protect their families when the police are too busy protecting 
their own?

Giffords' brain benefits from benign route of bullet

"This wasn't a little grazing wound to the brain. This was a devastating wound 
that traveled the entire length of the brain on the left side," said Dr. Peter 
Rhee, trauma medical director at UMC.
The bullet appeared to have entered the back of the head and exited above 
Giffords' eyebrow, he added.
So, Giffords was shot from behind. If she was running away, then she was not the 
first target. If she had been the intended target, wouldn't Jared have 
approached her from the front, if for no other reason than to make sure he had 
the right woman in his sights? Or to let her know who the agent of her impending 
death was?
Was someone else shot before Giffords? Like the judge? And if so, is this the 
reason that the video we presume was being made of her public appearance not 
been made public?

The terrible Tucson shootings yesterday may well serve as a prime opportunity to 
put forth anti-gun legislation.
While handing over weapons willingly is unthinkable for most 2nd Amendment 
advocates, it only takes a tragedy like this to convert gun control 
fence-sitters and spur on those who would leave citizens without personal 
protection. Perhaps it's not so much that fellow citizens want us defenseless, 
but is more in line with wrong thinking that if no one has a gun, no one gets 
hurt...
