Jon Stewart Says Of Osama Bin Laden's Death, "We're Back  Baby!"


On the Daily Show last night, Jon Stewart was absolutely thrilled about  
Osama bin Laden's demise at the hands of U.S. Special Forces. The Tribeca  
resident said, "I am way too close to this whole episode to be rational about  
this in any way, shape, or form. Last night was a good night — for me. And 
not  just for New York or D.C. or America, but for human people … Al Qaeda’s 
 opportunity is gone … Can they still do damage? I’m sure. But we’re back, 
 baby."
 
Stewart wondered about the mission, "I just want details. What look did he  
give when Bin Laden realized the helicopters overhead were not giving 
traffic  and weather updates? You think he pulled a Culkin? Maybe he gave a 
little more  dramatic chipmunk?... Believe me, he wasn't expecting it. You know 
he was living  in some staid and upscale Pakistani suburb for some time when 
we got him. You  know this guy's out there preaching suicide bombing and 
jihad pretending he's  Gandalf wandering the frontier, all the while he's 
living like one of the  housewives of Orange County."
 
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum board member also said, “I suppose I should be 
 expressing some ambivalence about the targeted killing of another human 
being  and yet…no." The program also spoofed the news that Bin Laden was 
buried at sea  and some of Stewart's past movies—and made a suggestion about what 
to do with  Bin Laden's body a la these suggestions.

With the death of Osama bin Laden, Jon Stewart announced Monday night that 
a  dark period in America's history was hopefully over, and our country was  
"back." 
Further, he said the news could not have been better for native New 
Yorkers,  as the circumstances of bin Laden's death sounded like the sort of 
fantasy  killing a stereotypical New Yorker would concoct. 
"Not only did we kill Bin Laden, but we killed him in Abbottabad?" Stewart  
said. "Abbottabad sounds like the name most New Yorkers would have invented 
for  the ficitional place they would love to kill Bin Laden."
Stewart said bin Laden's death had dealt a serious blow to Al Qaeda, and 
that  countries from the Middle East to the U.S. could now regain a sense of 
strength  and freedom. 
"We're back, baby," he said.
