*** AlbClub Discussion List *** To the members of the alb-net forums that have recently read personal opinions stemming from a reprint of an article by N. Jorgaqi about my uncle, Mirash Ivanaj, which appeared on Shekulli last month, I wish to point out: - that they should also read my letter that Shekulli published in Albanian http://www.shekulli.com.al/news/46/ARTICLE/26317/2008-05-29.html the English version of which appears below; - that making certain allegations about my uncle, strictly based on personal feelings that may not be supported by evidence, is not a recommended practice; - that already documented history (both oral and written) provides real proof of what Mirash Ivanaj was and did, and that is a fact. Thank you for your attention. Me respekt, Drita Ivanaj ================ Text of letter to Shekulli : May 18, 2008 Gazeta Shekulli TIRANË , Albania Attention : Brixhida Kokëdhima, Administratore Adrian Thano, Drejtor Arion Sulo, Kyeredaktor Subject: Shekulli article on Prof. Mirash Ivanaj – May 17, 2008 In this Saturday issue of your newspaper I notice, with great displeasure, that Prof. Nasho Jorgaqi published another article regarding my uncle Mirash, which includes improper and incorrect inferences about the life and actions of Prof. Ivanaj. This is not the first time that this individual has done so, and that he has used the name of my family for his own political purposes. In 1997 he actually dared to publish through the Toena Publishing Co. an entire, private manuscript written by my uncle when he left Albania in 1939, which was explicitly marked that such an action could not be taken without my consent. I, then, met and confronted Prof. Jorgaqi, who not only used unauthorized material for his political aims, but published it with an undignified cover of his choice, and he admitted to me his guilty actions. In another newspaper article that appeared a few years later in Klan magazine, he again used Ivanaj material, pretending that he had my permission to do. This is far from the truth, as are some of his implications in the current article. He again makes references to the above book (that was put out of circulation by my order), and he continues to use personal episodes of Mirash Ivanaj’s life to project his own personal political views and statements. Although these days anyone can write what they please, this must be done taking personal responsibility for what is published and not using someone else’s life to accomplish personal gains, especially if politically minded. Prof. Jorgaqi had for a long time the privilege of having at his disposal archival materials not open to the public, but the times have changed, and he has to realize that by continuing old practices, he exposes himself to modern rules of law that Albania must apply if it wants to become a real partner in today’s democratic society. I appreciate your publishing this letter at your earliest convenience. Thank you. Sincerely, Drita Ivanaj ______________________________________________________________ If you wish to unsubscribe, send a blank message to: [email protected] , or visit Alb-Club's page at: http://www.alb-net.com/mailman/listinfo/alb-club
