Re: ONE FOR THE CYCLIST

I thought I'd throw in a Colorado resident's view on this. Or at least the
view from reading the many newspaper articles.

I'm sure the local DA wishes the newspapers would let this one die - but
there are plenty of bicyclists in Colorado and just plain outraged folks.

The last article I read said that the DA asked his wife's opinion  on his
decision to go with the misdemeanor rather than the felony and she thought
it was a good choice. That seems like rather weak reasoning for the
decision.

An interesting twist is that the motorist and the cyclist's father are good
business acquaintances. The motorist went by the hospital the day after the
accident, ran into the father. The father explained why he was in the
hospital - but the motorist never volunteered that he was the one who hit
the son.

Further irony is that the motorist's defense is that he had 'undiagnosed
sleep apnea', fell asleep at the wheel, hit the cyclist, didn't realize it,
woke up with his car in the ditch, and drove off . .  . .

The ironies in this case are enough to make you cry . .  . . .
