    Renting or buying a copy of any artistic product gives one the right to 
use it on a personal basis and as long as they weren't charging for or 
receiving direct benefit from showing it. That's like back in the early days 
of TV. A store could have one displayed in a window with a program on which 
was OK if people stopped as they walked by but it could not be in a position 
where people had to come inside to see it. Those rules were so convoluted 
that they finally gave up and let people pretty much do whatever they 
wanted.

I would think that here in the States you would have to have a
"permit" (as in purchase the rights) to show any film that is
copyrighted. Yes?  No?
