You went to the drive-in movies because they were cheaper and you
could bring your own food. At least, that's what I told my parents.

As far as showing movies for free, be careful. Like someone else
pointed out, you can rent a movie for your own personal enjoyment, but
if you start inviting others to watch, you can open a can of worms,
particularly if you are anywhere public about it.

Case in point: you can listen to a song on the radio all day long. You
can even turn your radio up really loud so others can hear it. 

You can't use it for music on hold or to play as overhead background
music in a place of business. ASCAP and BMI have music police who will
call around to see if non-licensed businesses are playing things they
shouldn't. There's a bounty for turning in violators.
