Some might say I go minimal on the first aid kit. Considering my commutes
are orders of magnitude more dangerous than my touring, and that I have
never carried any first aid supplies commuting, it seems to make sense to
me. I just looked through my things and found my first aid kit contains:

3 bandaids total - small, med, large.
one small roll of gauze
a miniscule bar of soap
one homemade wilderness first aid card laminated with packing tape (SOAP,
RICE, SAMPLE, ABCCDE, if you remember those)
one small plastic bag (looks like a trash can bag but only about 1 liter)
packed in a homemade nylon pouch

I can't remember the last time I used anything from a typical first aid
kits. I always just washed out cuts and scrapes and rarely use bandaids. If
I were to fall while riding and get road rash, it would take a huge first
aid kit to even begin to start patching myself up, so I don't bother. Again,
I have yet to ride in places that don't see a car at least a few times an
hour, so my needs may vary form those riding in other places.

Managing type 1 diabetes is a much bigger health risk for me, so I do carry
a considerable weight in things to care for that, so maybe my lack of
complete first aid kit is just a lower priority than that.
