Cannondale Single Speed

For those who might be interested, I took my 1988 Cannondale SM-500 and had
it converted to a single speed for messy winter cycling and for trail riding
when the weather improves.

I toyed with the idea of complete restoration vs. replacing critical parts
but the age and style of the bike made both ideas difficult and expensive.
The single speed conversion made the most sense and ended up costing very
little considering what I got in return.

This bike was a real head-turner when I bought it as a "mountain bike" back
in September of 1988. I still have the owner's manual and sales receipt! It
was my primary bike for over 15 years. For the past 7 years or so it has
sat, lonesome and forlorn, in the garage. That is, until now.

Over the past three days I've put about 50 miles on her in urban / suburban
settings and it's been a wonderful experience.

The rear cog is 16  and the chainring 38
The chain and converter kit came from Nashbar
The new adjustable stem (quill) came from a LBS
