I gotta tell you guys, I stumbled upon this several years (maybe 10 years).  The thought of it set  a fire in me back then and you guys have done it again.  This is one of the most Romanic ideas since the turn of the century.   I've only skimmed over these references but I'm afire with the thoughts travel by the rails.   For those in the Know, is there a "one in all" clearing site that list rail that are in tack.   The thought of running out of rail in the middle of Kansas is a bit, I find, disturbing to say the least.   Meanwhile I'll be doing some research.    drooling  troll
