I like them also. For 30+ years I have used Rite in the Rain (or similar)
and have overall been pleased. I just bought some Molekines
http://www.moleskines.com/ based on some other people telling me they are
great but I have not used them yet. The Moleskines are not waterproof but
they do appear to be very nice quality, i.e. thick paper, stitching, etc. I
once used the 99-cent type pocket journals with a zip lock but those pages
tore very easily after just a few days so recommend them.

I like to keep one journal per trip as physically holding the journal 20
years later brings back memories. Call me out of date but I guess I just
like the feel and look of paper versus electronic. Just yesterday, I looked
at a journal from '82 and it was in overall great condition. I do store
them in zip locks to prevent moisture from getting to the pages even if they
are waterproof.

I've been using Rite in the Rain spiral bound notebooks for years. While
not
ABSOLUTELY waterproof, its pretty sturdy stuff, available in all kinds of
sizes and shapes. I carry it in a ziplock with an incredibly small pen. At
the end of the trip, I take out the pages I've written on, and put them in
another notebook. I often transcribe to the web or other documents. Their
full product line is at http://www.riteintherain.com/
