I am not really in favor of simple impoundment, I am in favor of seizure of the vehicle from the repeat offenders. That is once the cops take possession of the vehicle the idiots do not get it back. ----- Original Message ----- From: j.a. tackett To: Joe DeLory Sent: Thursday, February 17, 2011 12:29 PM Subject: Re: i agree the vehicle should be impounded... that should be the first action of the police... impound the vehicle....no matter what... and i have also read in the local papers... such and such showed up to court with suspended licenses ... for their hearing... then to be seen leaving the court parking lot driving... what part of the suspended driving privileges did they not get??? like here in wisconsin we have the "League of Tavern Owners" a very politically powerful organization.... this organization has deep pockets... they have managed to lobby against any harsher penalties in the DMV vehicle code... so i ask myself ... when we see such lack of laws in protection of pedestrian or bicyclist... how did those laws come about.... who paid for those laws to be written as such... follow the money... Many people seem to have no remorse as bystanders in a like they deserved it............. It does however seem to me that not controlling your vehical and killing someone is Gross Negligence. The death or course is proof positive that she did not allow a three foot clearance. He lost his drivers license for a limited time, that was about it............................. It sounds like this woman still has a license but is likely more careful. Many auto drivers would fear losing their license for a year more than a week in jail. **************************************************** Far to often loss of license (driving PRIVILEGES) does not stop a motorist from driving . We see it all too often in the police and court reports. "So-and-so was arrested for drinken or reckless driving, he/she was also cited for driving on a suspended or revoked license. Now there is no indication that this driver was a habitual offender. But for those that are, getting behind the wheel should be classified as "brandishing a deadly weapon" and the weapon should be forfeited.
