It's about maintaining a bunch of different wholesale accounts..

Is the part you wanted sold thru QBP? the biggest wholesaler in the country?

You give them enough time to add it to their order book ?

It's winter ,  summer has more sales out the door , so orders more
frequently placed with the wholesalers .

There are Specialty Cyclocross racing supporting websites

but there is only so much money to float to keep stuff in stock,
in a small shop..
so having your impulse purchase supported by their  ordering it by
clairvoyance ahead of need , is somewhat daft.
