Heard a segment on NPR recently about the challenges for LBS.

Local book stores, that is.  The truly local book and bike shops
are more and more niche retailers.   But even the big brick and
mortar chain bookstores are struggling.  Borders is near bankruptcy.

Local bike shops do have an advantage over book stores.  Bikes
need service, books don't.  Tough to mail order bike service.
