Many birders use such harnesses.

Since I ride a recumbent, I can use a standard small camera
case on a neck strap and let it slide under my arm.  It doesn't
move around much.

Hey, I resemble that, with my GPS and my camera both
on neck straps...  Here's me with just the GPS, dorky is
as dorky does.   I'm considering a smaller GPS.  %^)
