one might surmise that if they thought they could move Item X easily and had consistent demand for it, they might have it in stock. My personal experience has been that the LBS that I use can get me most things in one or two days if I really need it that quickly. Most things that I actually DO need quickly, they have in stock. In your situation, had I been the shop, I would have pulled a set off of a floor model bike and ordered replacements in.
