My "worst" touring bike was a circa 1995 Trek 7200 hybrid. I did an overnighter with it once. NOTE: The bike didn't suck. The 7200, at least in that vintage, was more along the lines of a robust hybrid, not a gracile "road" hybrid. I live in San Diego, and here at the intersection of the Pacific Coast Route and the "Southern Tier" here in the southeast corner pocket of the Continental United States I see a fair number of "hybrid' and "commuter" bikes rolling in from far away. For example, one guy rolling across country from Boston was on a KHS Urban Xpress, a steel-framed commuter-pitched "hybrid" that, get this, has through-fork eyelets for front rack mounting (which the rider didn't have). I do worry a little bit about the people on triathlon bikes with canteleverd/seatpost racks and small duffel bags bungied to the racks on PCH though.... Robert Leone
