Didn't use anyone's maps, but did the trip in 2001. Maybe 2002 but I would have had my co-motion by then and I think I took the Cannondale. Memory has it that we planned on a week but actually took 6 days. Would need to go find my journal for exact details but roughly we: Parked at the police station in Ticonderoga and took the ferry across. Rode up to Burlington in 2 days. Camped in some park or campground (but free I think) day 1 and in some park in Burlington (at least registered maybe paid) day 2. Stopped at Shelburne farms before Burlington for the tour and bought cheese and bread for dinner. Crossed over to the islands then up in to Canada across and down back into NY (2 more days). Planned on going straight back down to Ticonderoga but didn't like the hills and as one guy who was walking with his daughter at the top of a hill "it's hotter than I've seen in the 17 years I've lived here". So we took the easy way back. Essex-Charlotte Ferry back to VT and back the way we came. Got back to the cars I think mid afternoon 2 days later. Now that I think about it, we drove up for day 1 so the ride that day must have been a 1/2 day as well. That being the case, if we had left early on day 1, it would probably have been a 5 day ride. I'm wondering how many days it would take to ride, lightly loaded, round trip, starting and ending in Colchester, VT. Plan on 50-60 miles a day. Would head north through the Champlain Islands and cross over the lake to Rouses Point, NY. Then head south to Whitehall NY, back into VT and north back to Colchester on the VT side. Any insights will be greatly appreciated.
