RE: GOOD 20-50 oil for a Xflow

There is a view that has been propagated that the thinner viscosity oils
nW/30 and nW/40 are too thin for the tolerances within the x/flow engine and
just 'fall out' of the bearing shells etc w/out supporting the journals
properly.

Not being a graduate of fluid dynamics, I don't know how smelly this view is
;-)

I've been using this too, but (on my old engine and oil pump) the pressure
would drop alarmingly low after a long motorway run - less than 1 bar, and
as low as 0.5-0.6 on occasions.  I've rebuilt the engine and am using a
high-flow pump and 20W50 running in oil (i.e. c**p).  This combination means
that the pressure now drops to just 1.5bar (but not tried yet on a
motorway).  I just think that a 50w oil will give greater protection in the
sustained revs environment, hence my desire for a 20w50.  I can't see myself
going to Mobil1, unless I can extend oil changes to more than 3000 miles! so
the Valvoline Racing 20w50 sounds favourite at present - not too expensive
and recommended by other listers.

Does that all make sense?
