Yeah, it'll be fine. You need to do it fast enough that it doesn't 
phase against the LCD (which will irritatingly drift between about 
60Hz and 100Hz, depending on temp / manufacturer). You also 
want it faster than about 200Hz, so that it won't leave annoying 
flickery trails as you glance at it. Th ePIC PWM will be plenty 
capable. It might present an EMC menace, though - that's a 
moderate current you're switching, being delivered to quite a wide 
area.
