> A question has popped-up on a German 7 forum regarding the possible > exchange/spec of a Ford xf. > The visible numbers quoted are as follows: "711M-6015OA and CS93521" I looked this up in my book "Rebuilding and tuning Fords Kent Xflow engine", but not much joy. "711M" means that it is a post-1970 engine, using larger bore cam followers and a stronger block and is to be preferred over the earlier engine. The rest I don't know, but I'm told that there is also an AX block, made in South Africa, that has been further strengthened and is the best one to use - although the 711 is fine for most purposes below 170bhp. The weakest point is the valve train (A combination of using high-leverage rockers and less than perfect lubrication especially at low revs) and non-forged pistons. Hope this helps Regards Rupert Richardson, (1988 Caterham 1700SS, long cockpit, Xflow, live axle, 4-speed, BRG/Ally, Q296VMF) Tel: +44 (0)20 8402 9634 Ansafone/fax: +44 (0)20 8402 9635 Email: mailto:[email protected] ------------------------------------------------- To manage your subscription options visit :- http://mailman.se7ens.net/mailman/listinfo/sevens
