You could have your mechanic stick the emissions exhaust gas analyzer
into the top of your radiator to see if it reads hydro carbons, which
would indicate that the exhaust is getting into your coolant.

Might be head gasket - look in the water filler cap when the engine is
running.  Does it look fizzy? Oily?  Frothy?  You
could check your compressions too.
