Of course, just 'cos a system _shouldn't_ lose water, doesn't mean 
it isn't :)
The system I described is very sensitive to having little air leaks in 
the hose from the catch bottle to the radiator cap, which makes it 
behave exactly as you describe - and people often seem to make 
the hose out of utter tat (including Ford...) because it doesn't seem 
to be important. Pressurised systems let you know if there's a 
pinhole in a hose. The blow-suck systems just fail silently & cook 
your engine. Take your pick :) (and, if possible, have a huge, 
glaring, overtemperature light with a sensor in the head, not the 
radiator... (which is the voice of bitter experience...)
