I got the impression that Tor had a bit more budget to spare than an old Cavalier... I would suggest something like a 2-3 year old diesel Mondeo or Focus, or if you want the prestige (!?) a similar age Passat/Golf TDI. Reasonably nippy, practical and reliable. People who know that you are keen on cars/driving might think oddly of you but, lets face it, you've got the 7 and its all about 'tools for the job'.
