When I got my 2000 SV650 in 2002 I bought the following riding gear over time: 1. Belstaf textile jacket (local bike shop). Excellent for weather up to about 80-degrees-f and good for cool weather with liner zipped in. 2. Joe Rocket Ballistic mesh jacket for hot weather riding (newenough.com). 3. Joe Rocket Ballistic pants (newenough.com). Good for keeping dry but hot in the summer. I couldn't tuck them in my boots and had to wear them over my boots. I ended up selling these. 4. Used Aerostich 2-piece Roadcrafter suit (Ebay). I thought I got a good deal but I've since had a zipper pull break so I've sent the suit to Aerostich for freshening up. For what I'll have in it I could have bought one of their suits via their email on-sale list for maybe $100 more. I do like this suit though. 5. Used Tecknic 1-piece leather racing suit (Ebay). This was a bargain with a $200 but-it-now price. I bought this for a future track day assuming I can find the gonads to do it. Part of the reason I've bought all this stuff is because I thought I was saving money and would never want a full suit for casual riding and would never need leathers. I also have lost 60 pounds over the last 16 months and some of the stuff I bought early is too big. (My Belstaf and Joe Rocket jackets are for sale.) So lets assume you have the fabric and leather riding gear and are about to go for a casual ride. My opinion is that you'll almost always grab the fabric stuff. That would be me too.
