If you use a chain breaker to cut the OEM endless chain, it becomes
just like every other chain you'd buy with a master link.  So you'll
need a DID 525 master link (not for the top end link, but the 525V
because the pin diameter is slightly larger in the super high end
chain)

If the chain you got was cut already, that saves you a step (and
therefore wasn't OEM, no matter what they told you)

you can thread the new chain through all its contortions without
removing the swingarm, and without using the old chain to pull the new
one through, but it's easier to use the old chain.

One thing to note that looks like a misunderstanding on your part:
You CANNOT re-use a link.  Once you punch the rivets out, it's done,
trash.  You have to use a new master link.

Oh yea, it doesn't matter which link of your new chain you cut,
they're all the same.
