Re: jackets and armor

There are tons of new cordura jacket designs out there that have zip
panels that expose mesh areas for summer/spring riding and zip up and
insulate well for winter riding. I'd check out jackets made by
TourMaster, Joe Rocket or Marsee. Those come to mind but there are
more.

Armor is key. I fell down and went boom Saturday in a low speed front
wheel washout (snow on road + street tire = slip) and smacked my knee
and elbow. I had CE approved armor in both areas (Knox armor in my
Belstaff jacket and Motoport "Tri-armor" in my Ultra pants) and walked
away just fine.

Hard plastic isn't really that effective in energy absorption. I'd say
avoid it unless it's CE Approved. You REALLY want to get CE Approved
stuff. It's guaranteed to absorb X amount of Joules of energy.

That's my quick 02. I'm glad you're looking at the whole picture.
There are so many new jacket designs out there that'll cover all 4
seasons.You'll find a lot of different options.

Check out www.newenough.com (big discounter out of Texas who are very
good to the m/c community) as a starter.
