The problem with trying to decide which way to go, textile v leather, hard
armor v impact foam, is that you don't know what kind of a getoff you may
have. For a nice long slide down the tarmac, you can't beat cow, kangaroo or
goatskin. For the majority of slides though which are usually lower speed,
ballistic textile is fine. Impact foam is fine unless you strike something
really hard like a curb (or asphalt edge as in my getoff). Then, hard armor
with impact foam under it is ideal. I had impact foam and broke several
bones when I hit that edge. I slid a good distance too but mostly in dirt so
my textile jacket and leather pants came out just fine, at least until the
EMTs cut my jacket off me.
As far as insulation v airflow you need to look at the average set of
conditions under which you will be riding. If you are going to do track days
you will most likely want leather. If you are going to tour with some
occasional sport riding, textile will probably be the way to go especially
if you will be riding in rain. If you have bookoo bucks, get both.
