 It wasn't the waves so much as the rocking -  Apparently one of the
deckhands physically restrained it on some of
the really serious rolls - and got doused by a few waves for his trouble. I
let him know how grateful I was.

Let's give that hand a hand. He didn't have to do that. I've been on the
ferry run between Sidney B.C. and Anacortes a few times and never ran in to
foul weather.
Hose that Bimmer down real good now, that salty water ain't no dam good for
a bike..
