This was not the case! Many of the beginners were fast, experienced riders
on fully prepped track bikes.

Moving my shift lever up about an inch did the trick. I never even thought
about my boots while I was on the bike. In fact, I think I only missed one
shift all day, although I kept hitting the rev limit. Off the bike, I
couldn't wait to get them off because they are not comfortable for standing
and walking -- too much pressure on the toes. But on the bike, they were
perfect.
