Stripped torx bolt holding mirror

I was not able to remove my mirror (2001 SV-S) because the torx bolt (or
whatever you call that star-shaped bolt) won't turn. It is stripping even
with the (seemingly) correct sized bit.

Why the hell didn't they just use two allen bolts instead of a torx bolt
next to an allen bolt? What purpose does that serve?

Anyway, how do I get that bolt to come out?
