The solution is to remove the carbs, remove the anti-tamper plugs, and adjust the idle mixture screws. For stock exhaust and stock air cleaner the screws should be set 2-1/2 to 3 turns out from lightly seated. I use 2-1/2 for stock exhaust and 3 for aftermarket exhaust. While you're in there, you should shim the needles. Easily done. These two adjustments make a huge difference in driveability.
