GESO 2018 - 005-010 - GDG

I've been carrying the Light L16 with me almost all the time this past week and some. It's small, light weight and handy, and flexible … and can produce some excellent quality results! People think you're just playing with your cell phone as you use it too which makes it unobtrusive in a lot of street and people shooting. 

So … Yesterday I had dropped off my car for some maintenance and took the bus back and forth to the shop at both ends of the day. I've found a really handy bus route that basically means a short walk at the ends of the run; the trip takes me just barely more than a half hour total. As I sat riding the bus, a truism came to mind while watching the people getting on and off, chatting with each other, the streets going by: you can't do street photography if you're driving, you have to be "in the street"—walking, riding the bus, sitting at cafes, etc—to do it. Being encumberred with a car consumes much too much of your time and energy. I already started to think this just from my bicycle riding, but you're still encumbered with a vehicle to manage. I think I'll be allocating time to riding the busses around more this year. 

On my walk to and from the bus, I came across this faded and slightly beat up 1970 BMW 2002. I owned one of these cars when they were nearly new, bought it in 1972 when I graduated High School for $1800; it seems so cheap now, but it was a lot of money for me then! Mine was Forest Green with a Tan interior ... four speed manual transmission, cheap Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo, no AC or power accessories at all. It was a glorious thing to drive: light, agile and trim, quick enough. But oh my was it expensive for an 18 year old to service and maintain in 1972! Loved it anyway, lots of fun...
