I've ordered the ARC 250 software and the cable today from ScannerMaster.  
I'm gonna give my local PC store a crack at the serial to USB cable. It's not  
needed unless I am using my laptop. I very much appreciate all the input so 
far.  I will report my success or lack thereof in future posts. I know I'll be 
back  with questions. Thanks again.  Brian
