If you get the Uniden scanner, I understand you are going to have to pay $150 to have it programmed by a second party programmer. I understand GRE will program one system as part of the purchase price, or, put another way, for free. How do I know? I now have a $500 Uniden paperweight since my local system went to banding.

The scanners that can scan the MPSCS are the BC296D, BC796D, PRO96,
  PRO2096, BCD396T and BCD996T you can only buy used. PRO106, PRO197,
GRE400, GRE500 BCD396XT and BCD996XT are the new scanners that can monitor
9600 BPS Motorola TRS digital voice. Some of the older scanner models
  *may* need a firmware upgrade.
