Win7 and Win8. If you are using a serial to USB cable: The drivers for the USB/Serial cable will only work if you have the correct= =20 driver for the Windows version. The older, "off" brand cables cannot be use= d for=20 Win8 because there is no updated driver past XP.=C2=A0 The Uniden=C2=A0cabl= e has a Win7=20 driver which also works for Win8. This will not be an issue if the computer you are using has a serial port. Make sure that you have the scanner set for the same baud as the program=20 (115,000 8/N/1 should work for both) and plug in the cable to the computer = and=20 scanner, turn the scanner on and then look at the hardware manager to insur= e=20 that there is a serial port assigned (same process for=C2=A0either cable ty= pe).=C2=A0 This=20 is important if the auto detect does not recognize the scanner.=C2=A0 **the= scanner=20 must be turned=C2=A0on to be recognized!** To test if you have a connection, try reading from the scanner to the softw= are.=C2=A0=20 The scanner should beep and a lockout message appears on the screen. If so, you are good to go with the remote control portion of the program.= =C2=A0 If=20 not, ...well...at least I tried! I have ARC250 but it's not detecting the=20 connection. I checked my serial ports and they are supposedly working=20 correctly however no joy. It may be the cable but I've used it in the past with success although=20 it's been probably a few years since I've programmed the radio. Any other thoughts, anyone? J. I sent it to Uniden for a=20 successful=C2=A0 repair. In the software, did you assign the correct com port or just let the=20 software try to find it ?
