It doesn't affect scanning much, although you may ha= ve to turn up the volume a bit, as older scanners were made to work with le= ss bandwidth. The one way I have found that it does affect scanning is tha= t many users when they switched to FMN also switched to digital. The digit= al part was NOT in the law, but the radio shop people were able to convince= many users that they would have to switch to digital to make FMN work very= well. However, standard analog FMN is still used extensively as well. P2= 5 is a digital mode, also called APCO 25. Most digital scanners can receiv= e it. Other digital modes include MotoTRBO, D-Star, ProVoice, and more. I= t seems to me that P25 is the most popular and the first digital mode that = really took off.
