Problem using Butel software & R2

Hi,

I've just received the ARC-2 software from Butel along with a
serial cable but am having trouble.  When I select the "Read
data from R2" function nothing happens.  Have tried plugging
the cable in with the power switched on and off but with no
success.  The cable seems to be working as I tried putting the
R2 into clone mode and pressing the squelch (as per the
instructions for cloning 2 R2's) and the blue bar appears on
the screen and the data is successfully uploaded to the PC.
However, on attempting to write to the R2, the blue progess 
bar is displayed but CL.OUT is not shown on the R2 and no
information is actually received.

Are there any settings that need to be changed for the COM port
or any other changes??  I am using Win XP and the version of
the software send by email from Butel.
