There used to be instructions for opening the R2 on the web, but I can't
find them any more. Removing the case back is easy; probably nothing more
than removing the two screws in the battery compartment. To remove the RF
board inside the radio, there are a number of other screws to take out plus
you have to unsolder a couple of places around the edge of the board. This
includes the SMA jack. You should unsolder the jack from the RF board (3
places) so the board comes out without the jack.

Once the RF board is out, you can then remove the nuts on the SMA jack and
rotary control, which allows you to remove the control board and the metal
frame which carries the SMA jack. These nuts are Loctited in place and may
be difficult to remove the first time. I ended up reshaping a screwdriver
tip into a custom tool.

On the other hand, if it's just a bad connection to the SMA jack, you may be
able to resolder the connections to it without removing anything other than
the case back.

You will need a long-tip soldering iron, good light, maybe a magnifier, and
steady hands to do this. The connections to the SMA jack are partially
obscured by the case.
