Hi, If the coax is good quality RG6 then there is no reason why it can not be used for the connection of a outdoor antenna. Not technically correct as it will be 75 instead of 50 ohms, but for receive only it should be fine. Dont run splitters etc for TV's and the like off the same length of cable however. Depending on the quality of the dielectric you may experience some losses in the higher UHF frequencies. I cannot comment on an out door antenna except to say the Discone appears to be an all round favorite but would even the discone over load the R2's front end? Good luck.
