  To turn the unit on or off, press the POWER button (orange above), and 
  hold it for a couple seconds.
  Pressing the BAND button switches bands, but you can tune to anywhere in 
  the entire range of the unit from any band starting point.
  Turning the knurled knob at the top tunes the unit up and down in fine 
  steps. To go fast, press and hold the FUNC key while turning the knurled 
  knob.
  The IC-R2 supports three basic receive modes, AM, FM or WFM (wide FM). 
  For FM radio control systems, make sure you've selected FM mode, both 
  while tuning manually and when you save presets. You will pick up 
  adjacent channels if you leave the receiver in WFM mode, which might 
  cause hunting around for "nonexistent interference"! Push the MODE 
  button to switch from AM to FM to WFM and back to AM.
  The IC-R2 is always in one of two major modes, either manual tuning or 
  memory. To switch back and forth press the V/M button to switch from 
  manual tuning (VOR) to memory pre-set mode. This is the thing that 
  confused me at first, since you can manually tune once you've pulled up 
  a pre-set! If MR is lit up on the LCD (see #8 on the drawing above), 
  you're in memory recall mode, if it's not, you're in manual mode!
  Working With Memory Presets (8 banks of 50 presets each) [top]
  TO CHOOSE A MEMORY BANK:
  Set the unit to memory recall by pressing the V/M button until MR lights 
  up (#8 on the LCD drawing above)
  Press and hold FUNC, and turn the knurled knob at the top of the unit. 
  As you turn the knob, you'll see the "bank indicator" change (#7 on the 
  LCD drawing above). As usual, the memory bank numbering is done from the 
  programmer's point of view, starting with "Bank 0"! Sorry 'bout that, 
  but that's the way it is... The bank indicator will show either:
  - nothing (you're in the first memory bank 1)
  - 1, 2 or 3 (you're in the second, third or fourth memory bank)
  - a small diamond with no number (you're in the fifth memory bank)
  - a small diamond with 1, 2 or 3 (you're in the sixth, seventh or eight 
  memory bank)
  TO CHOOSE A MEMORY CHANNEL ONCE YOU'VE CHOSEN A MEMORY BANK:
  This one's easy! Just turn the knurled knob (remember that you've got to 
  be in memory recall mode (MR lit up - #8 on the drawing - if it isn't, 
  see "To Choose a Memory Bank" above)
  TO SAVE A MEMORY PRESET (by choosing the memory storage location first):
  Choose a memory bank (make sure MR is lit up when you're done, as above)
  Choose a memory channel in which to store the new settings (as above)
  Press V/M to switch back to manual tuning mode
  Tune to the frequency you want, make sure AM/FM/WFM and any other 
  settings are set the way you want
  Now press and hold FUNC, and then press and hold V/M-MW for a second or 
  two, until you hear a double-beep. Now your preset is stored in the 
  location you chose in step 2.
  NOTE: This method will ONLY save to a memory storage location that has 
  been previously programmed! Use the next method for the first time 
  saving to a memory slot.
  TO SAVE A MEMORY PRESET (by choosing the receiving frequency first, then 
  the memory location):
  Tune to the frequency you want, make sure AM/FM/WFM and any other 
  settings are set the way you want
  Press and hold FUNC, and then tap V/M-MW. If you did this right, when 
  you let go of the V/M-MW button you should see the MW indicator and the 
  bank number flashing. If not, and if you heard a double-beep, sorry, you 
  just over-wrote the bank/channel shown on the unit. (This is why I tend 
  to do it the other way - keeps me from shooting myself in the foot. 
  However, this way allows you to choose the memory slot after tuning, 
  which is sometimes handy.)
  Choose a memory bank by pressing and holding FUNC while turning the 
  knurled knob
  Choose a memory channel in which to store the new settings by turning 
  the knurled knob
  Press and hold FUNC, and press and hold V/M-MW for two seconds, until 
  you hear the double-beep. You've now saved the preset in the bank and 
  slot chosen in step 4.
  How to Scan [top]
  TO SCAN A BANK OF MEMORY PRESETS
  Choose a memory bank (see "choose a memory bank" above)
  Press and hold the FUNC button, and tap the VOL UP or VOL DOWN arrows
  The IC-R2 will scan up or down the list of memory presets. Each time an 
  active signal is found, it will stop for a few seconds and then 
  continue. To stop scanning, press FUNC and VOL UP or VOL DOWN again.
  TO SCAN A FREQUENCY BAND
  Set the IC-R2 to normal operation (MR not lit), by tapping the V/M 
  button until the MR indicator on the LCD is not lit up.
  Press and hold the FUNC button, and tap the VOL UP or VOL DOWN arrows
  The IC-R2 will scan up or down the current frequency band. Each time an 
  active signal is found, it will stop for a few seconds and then 
  continue. To stop scanning, press FUNC and VOL UP or VOL DOWN again.
  TO SCAN USING SCAN EDGES
  Note: Scan edges is the ICOM word for scanning between two frequency 
  end-points, rather than scanning particular fixed frequencies. The IC-R2 
  configuration file on this site has scan edge pairs pre-configured for 
  several key RC frequency ranges.
  Set the IC-R2 to normal operation mode (MR not lit), by tapping the V/M 
  button until the MR indicator on the LCD is not lit up.
  Press and hold the FUNC button, and push BAND while the FUNC button is 
  held down. The display will show either ALL, BAND or PROGnn, where nn is 
  a number (e.g. PROG12). Turn the knob until the display shows PROGnn 
  with the scan edge pair number you want to scan between (see the cheat 
  sheet for some examples).
  Press the BAND button (you'll see some frequency other than the edge 
  presets on the display, but don't worry...)
  Press FUNC + VOL UP / DN to start scanning between the low and high scan 
  edge frequencies.
  HOW TO STOP SCANNING! (You were wondering about this, right?)
  Press and hold FUNC and tap VOL UP or DN
  HOW TO CONTINUE SCANNING WHEN A SIGNAL IS FOUND
  You may be scanning, and find a signal that you don't want to listen to, 
  and you don't want to wait through the 10 seconds (or whatever is 
  configured in the unit) for Scan Pause time. If this happens, just turn 
  the knob while the scanner is paused on the found signal, and it'll 
  continue the scan "past" the pause frequency.
