Buy a charger and 2500 mAh AA Nickel Metal Hydride batteries.  If there
is a Wal-Mart near you, you can purchase four of these for somewhere
around $10.  That is a good price and the Energizer rechargeables are
great batteries.

The best chargers are from Maha and can't easily be found in stores.  If
you do a google search you will find companies that sell these online.
They charge the batteries at a medium speed.  Some batteries will fail
if charged too quickly but slow charger take 10 hours or more to charge
the AA s and that is too slow....

The ic-r2 is the reciver/scanner ive ever found. I got mine from a 
friend who gave up on trying to program it , and didnt like the fact 
it only works with batterys .I down loaded an oweners manul @ icom 
website and have it programed ,and love it . any advice on the best 
batterys,i am cosidering rechargable . guss thats the best bet? Jay
