I think your best option would be the Miniscout from
Optoelectronics. The range from a cordless phone or
it's base unit is probably 2-3 feet maximum. The range
from a normal portable radio like the kind the police
often uses, is something like 50-100 feet and are
dependent of the RF enviroment in the suroundings.

Anyone have any suggestions on models? Looking for sub $100, I realize this is cheap but perhaps used or whatnot.  Also thoughts on the range of these
