My 30 year old Sony ICF 2001 died during a thunderstorm when static
apparently zapped it (in early July). I tried to repair it by replacing the
FET that is closest to the antenna. This failed.

I bought a Grundig 4000A for about $70 from Amazon. I think they are being
closed out.

What I want is a Sony ICF 2010 in good condition - many have bad FETs in
that antenna section that I tried to fix on my 2001.

I know what you mean about radios. I have a small museum. When at
Walgreen's on July 4th I noticed a close out on a SAME weather radio for
$8.25 and though I have no need for it I now own it.

I hope my 4000A works as well as the Sony did in the Adirondacks. I may get
to test it soon.

have a ham radio (ICOM 730 transceiver) which of course is great for SSB but
it's out for repairs for a few months.

that if I want a scanner that will pick up law enforcement agencies in my
area I would probably need to go up to something like the Pro 2096; so as to
have the digital "25" something or other and trunking capabilities. Those
darn things are expensive though.
